Question : Why did Pandit Maharaj ji go to the Navroji Lane upashray (monastery) despite the prohibition of the upashray administrators ?
Gachchadhipati Pujya Pandit Maharaja :
Tirthankars have given inevitable importance to the practice of bare-foot movement from one place to other (“vihar”) of Sadhus and Sadhvijis, for subsistence of their ascetic life journey (“sayyam yatra”). In order to follow this monastic practice, it becomes essential to stop-over in the places that come in between during the “vihar”.
The administrators of Navroji Lane Upashray had indirectly conveyed their embargo to stay there. But these administrators lacked the moral force to directly convey the ban or even share a copy of the decision of all the upashrays located in Ghatkopar.
Under such circumstances, would it have been apt to relinquish all upashrays located at Ghatkopar by following the administrators order which was totally against to the commands of Jin (“Jinagya”) and thus in the process create a big obstacle in the monastic practice of our entire group of sadhus and sadhvijis (gachha) OR would it be appropriate to go there with due honour for “Jinagya” and carry out the monastic practice of Gachha with peace and courtesy. Religion loving Jains should give serious thought to this.
In this connection, by banning our Samudaya from Tapagachchiya Upashrayas, those administrators, have made a tremendous attack on the monastic practice of our group (“samuday”). On this occasion, it is necessary for the prudent Jains to become aware of their obligation.
