Question 6 : Pandit Maharaj Ji is saying that the trustees cannot be called the “Shayyatar” (stay providers to sadhus). Is there any proof of that?
Gachchadhipati Pujya Pandit Maharaja :
The proof is very simple and clear.
The trustees are neither the owners nor the patrons/ contributors of upashray (monastery) construction, so how can he be a Shayyatar?
Yes, if the patron/ contributor is the trustee, then due to him being the patron/ contributor, he can be considered as a shayyatar. But just because of being a trustee, no one can be considered as a shayyatar.
And if only the trustees were the shayyatars, then their houses should normally be forbidden for Gochari etc. of the Mahatmas. But such practice is not seen anywhere in Jain Sangh. This clearly illustrates that the trustees are not the shayyatars.
